Normally, MetaMask displays popular ERC-20 standard tokens (or standard tokens) and SPL-standard tokens you own on your account page. However, with the proliferation of tokens on Ethereum and other networks, MetaMask doesn't maintain an authoritative list of tokens — but you can add any ERC-20-compliant token you hold.

There are two different ways to add unlisted tokens to your MetaMask: enhanced token detection and manually adding a token.

First of all, you can enable an advanced feature that automatically detects tokens held by your address, and adds them to your accounts. Verbesserte Token-Erkennung

Only available on certain networks!

Enhanced token detection is available on Ethereum Mainnet, Linea, Avalanche, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, zkSync, and Solana.

If you're a new MetaMask user, token detection is enabled by default. If you're an existing user, you might have to turn it on:

• Extension
• Mobile

Click on the menu in the upper right-hand corner of the wallet view, navigate to 'Settings', and then 'Security & Privacy'.

Make sure the 'Autodetect tokens' toggle is on.

Tap the menu icon in the top-right corner and tap 'Advanced'.

Scroll until you find the token detection toggle.

Adding a token with search

To see your tokens, click on the Tokens tab. Your tokens should be listed under this tab. If they're not, and automatic token detection isn't picking them up, then click on the 3 dots and 'Import tokens'.

The token will now be listed under your account's tokens.

If the token you search for is not among the most popular tokens, the search bar may not return the token you queried. In this case, you could manually add it with its token address. See steps below.

Adding a token with address

This only works on EVM-networks, not Solana.

From the main page of Extension or Mobile, under the 'Tokens' tab, click the plus button.

From there, you can search for your token by name, or add a custom token with the token address.

To add a custom token, select the 'Custom token' tab:

From there, click 'Select network', and then choose the network the token is on. Then, copy the token's address into 'Enter token contract address'. If you do not know the token's contract address, read more below. Once you have the token's address, click 'Next', and then 'Import'.

How to find the token address

Take a look at this article to see a couple of different ways to find your token address.

If someone told you they have sent you tokens, but they are unable to provide you:

• the token address, or
• the transaction hash (a unique transaction ID),

it's possible that they haven't in fact done so.

In addition to Etherscan, this will work with most major block explorers, including BscScan, Polygonscan, Snowtrace, etc., as they generally share a similar design.

Sites such as Coingecko or CoinMarketCap offer MetaMask integration that allows you to add a token to MetaMask directly from its entry on their site.
