Money Account
MetaMask Money Account is a self-custodial account that earns up to 4% APY* on deposited mUSD. With no lockups, no withdrawal penalties, and no account fees, your Money Account balance is always available to trade or spend.
MetaMask Money Account is available on MetaMask Mobile v 8.0 and above only. MetaMask Money Account is available globally except in the UK and countries on the USA sanctions list.
What is Money Account?
MetaMask Money Account is a new account experience. Unlike traditional crypto accounts, Money Account puts your assets to work, allowing you to earn APY, with earnings accruing daily.
Powered by mUSD and the Monad network, your mUSD in your Money Account earns automatic yield in the background. As you hold mUSD in the Money Account, your cash will grow overtime with daily yield. Hold as long as you want to keep your savings growing or transfer to another account.
How is Money Account different from a regular account?
MetaMask Money Account functions differently from your typical MetaMask account experience. With your regular MetaMask account, you do not automatically earn APY on mUSD. Instead, you would need to complete a series of transactions such as depositing into a lending pool to earn yield on mUSD. In these cases, you incur fees from every transaction made, and your assets may be locked up and only accessible after a waiting period.
With Money Account, your mUSD earns yield automatically, without you paying any fees. MetaMask handles all transactions on the backend, and your assets aren't locked up. At any time you can spend, send, or otherwise transact with your Money Account mUSD.
You won't see an account address with your Money Account. Money Account is designed to be native to MetaMask, so you can't export your account into another crypto wallet. However, at any time you can transfer assets out of this account, and into a regular account.
Like your other accounts on MetaMask, Money Account is still self-custodial. You control your funds. MetaMask cannot access, freeze, or move your Money Account balance. Your Money Account is secured by your SRP.
How do I earn yield?
Any funds in your Money Account will automatically earn yield; you do not need to do anything but fund your account.
Through trusted third-party DeFi platforms, your funds are deployed on blockchain protocols to earn variable APY that accrues daily. This happens entirely behind-the-scenes, so your funds will always remain accessible, even as they continue to earn.
The APY amount is always visible in your Money Account. Earnings are reflected in your balance in real time; you do not need to claim or collect your earnings.
Get started with Money Account
You don't need to "open" or "create" your Money Account in a traditional sense. You don't need to KYC or provide other personal information to get started, though some funding methods may require identity verification from the payment provider.
Instead, you simply need to navigate to the Money Account to use it.
Open MetaMask Mobile, and then tap 'Money' in the bottom navbar. That's it! Your Money Account exists whether or not you have funds in it, but you won't earn yield without deposited funds.
To get started earning, you'll need to fund your account.
Fund your Money Account
Convert existing tokens
To start earning daily yield, deposit existing tokens into a Money Account. Supported stablecoins and aTokens will be automatically swapped into mUSD, with no swap or network fees: USDC, USDT, DAI, aUSDC, aUSDT, and aDAI.
Other tokens can also be deposited and swapped into mUSD, but you will pay the swap and network fees like normal.
To deposit a token, open your Money Account, and tap 'Add'.
Then, select 'Convert crypto'.
Enter the amount you want to convert. Select the token you want to convert from, and choose the account that token is in.
When you're ready, tap 'Continue'.
Review the details of your transaction. Tap 'Convert' when you're ready to proceed and start earning APY.
Transfer mUSD
Already hold mUSD? You can easily transfer any mUSD you already hold into your Money Account at no fee.
Simply open your Money Account, and tap 'Add'.
Then, tap 'Add your X mUSD'.
Enter the amount of mUSD you want to move to your Money Account.
Review the details, and then tap 'Add funds'.
Buy mUSD
To buy mUSD for your Money Account, open your Money Account, and tap 'Add'.
Select 'Deposit funds'.
Enter the amount of mUSD you want to purchase, and select your payment method.
Tap 'Continue'.
Review the details of your transaction, and tap 'Deposit'.
If you haven't used this method before, you'll need to provide some additional details to the provider, Transak.
Spend mUSD with MetaMask Card
Link MetaMask Card
Spend directly from your Money Account at hundreds of millions of merchants worldwide with MetaMask Card. To link your card and your Money Account, open MetaMask Mobile and tap 'Money' in the bottom navbar.
Tap on 'Card'.
Then, tap 'Link'.
If you don't have a MetaMask Card yet, you can set up a card if you are in an eligible region.
To unlink your MetaMask Card from your Money Account, click 'Manage' next to the card icon in your Money Account. Then, click 'Unlink Money Account.' You can link the two again at any time.
Manage spending
Once you've linked your card, you can start spending funds from your Money Account. To manage the spending order of your assets, tap 'Manage'.
Then, tap 'Change asset'.
Then, set the order you'd like your card to spend your assets. For example, you can set mUSD from Money Account to be the first asset spent, and then USDC in Account 1 to be the second asset spent, once the first asset's limit has run out.
Claim MetaMask Card mUSD cashback
As you spend with MetaMask Card, you'll earn 3% mUSD back on eligible purchases with Metal card, or 1% mUSD back on eligible purchases with Virtual card.
You can claim your cashback earnings to your Money Account by clicking 'Manage'.
Then, next to your cashback amount, click 'Withdraw'. You'll see a small network fee, and once you confirm the transaction, the mUSD cashback amount will be withdrawn to your Money Account.
Earn yield
Funds in your Money Account earn automatic yield that accrues daily. APY varies with market conditions and is not guaranteed. You can check the current APY at any time, including your estimated earnings thus far:
Transfer out from your Money Account
At any time you can send mUSD from your Money Account to another MetaMask account, your Perps account, or your Predictions account.
Simply tap 'Transfer' at the top of your Money Account.
Select 'Another account' to initiate a transfer to another MetaMask account.
Enter the amount of your mUSD balance you'd like to transfer, and confirm what address you are transferring to. You can also choose what token you'd like to receive. When you're ready, tap 'Continue'.
Confirm the details of your transaction and tap 'Send'.
Fund Prediction and Perps accounts
To fund a Perps or Predictions account, tap 'Transfer' at the top of your Money Account.
From here, you can choose to transfer funds to another account, a Perps account, or a Predictions account. Select which transfer type you'd like to initiate.
Enter the amount of your mUSD balance you'd like to transfer. Confirm what account you are transferring to. Tap 'Continue'.
Confirm the details of your transaction and tap 'Transfer'.
You can use your Money Account balance as a funding source directly within the Perps and Predictions deposit flows. When adding funds to either account, select Money Account as your 'Pay with' source to use your mUSD balance.
You can also withdraw funds from your Prediction or Perps accounts into your Money Account. When you're withdrawing from either account type, simply select your Money Account to initiate the withdrawal.
FAQs
Is Money Account free to use?
Money Account is completely free. The APY shown in the Money Account is the net rate you earn; product fees are deducted before this amount is shown.
Is there a minimum deposit or balance amount?
There is not a minimum deposit amount, and you do not need to hold a certain balance to earn APY.
Where is Money Account available?
Money Account is not available in the United Kingdom and countries on the US sanctions list.
Can I have multiple money accounts?
No; you can only have one Money Account on MetaMask Mobile.
How do I access my Money Account if I reinstall MetaMask or get a new phone?
Your Money Account is associated with your SRP. If you reinstall MetaMask Mobile, simply enter the SRP or Google/Apple login you used in your previous installation of Mobile, and your Money Account will be reimported, along with your other accounts tied to that SRP.
I reinstalled MetaMask Mobile and entered my SRP, but I don't see my Money Account.
If you don't see your Money Account, you likely entered a different SRP. Make sure you use the SRP associated with your Money Account — this is the SRP imported in MetaMask Mobile when you first used your Money Account.
My APY has changed since I opened my account. Is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong — APY is variable and changes daily with market conditions. The APY you see today might be different than the one you see tomorrow. Up-to-date APY can always be found in your Money Account.
I imported my SRP into a different web3 wallet, but I don't see my Money Account.
Money Account is tied to MetaMask, so it will not show up in a different web3 wallet.
I made a deposit, but my balance hasn't updated yet. What should I do?
Balance updates run on a ~30-second refresh cycle, so a short delay is normal. Pull down to refresh your Money Account screen to trigger a manual update. If your deposit appears in the Activity tab, your funds arrived safely, and the balance will catch up shortly.
Avoid force-closing the app during a pending transaction — if you do, it may show as "failed" in Activity, but this is a display issue only, and your balance will still update correctly.
Do I need ETH or another gas token to use Money Account or make transactions?
No! The Money Account does not have fees associated with it, so you don't need ETH or another gas token. You might need a gas token when funding the account, but we recommend using a fee-free method instead, described here.
