Fund your card

MetaMask Card uses Linea, Solana, and Base, so you can choose your preferred network for spending. To learn about swapping tokens to your preferred network, keep reading, or jump to "Enable tokens" if you already have funds on your preferred network.

Move funds to your preferred network

You can move funds by using MetaMask's native swap feature within Extension and Mobile. Simply click the 'Swap' button, select Linea, Solana, or Base, and select the token you want to move.

US users

US users can only fund their card with eligible tokens on Linea and Base (Base is not currently supported for users in New York and Texas). For more information, keep reading.

Gas

Each transaction with your card requires a small amount of gas to cover the network fee, which will be taken from the same token you're spending. After a transaction, you can see the gas fee in the transaction details in your card dashboard.

Enable tokens & accounts

MetaMask Card allows you to directly spend from your self-custodial MetaMask account. To give MetaMask Card permission to start spending from an account, you will need to set a spending limit. You can set spending limits for multiple accounts and networks by repeating the process.

Spending limits

When you set a spending limit, also known as a spending cap, you choose a certain token amount for MetaMask Card to spend from your account. These funds will remain in your account until you spend them, and you can revoke the spending cap at any time.

Fund your account and enable tokens

You can fund your card on MetaMask Mobile, or on the web dashboard.

You can natively add funds to your card in MetaMask Mobile (version 7.54 or later). Simply open the mobile app, select the account that MetaMask Card is approved to spend from, and click the card icon at the top of the screen.

MetaMask mobile card tab button

On the next screen, click 'Add funds'. You can then choose to buy tokens directly from the app, or swap existing tokens into a spendable token on Linea, Base, or Solana.

To spend with a different asset, click 'Change asset', and select the asset you would like to spend with. If this asset does not yet have an approved spending limit, you will be taken to the web dashboard to set a spending limit.

Spending limit gas

Each time you set a spending limit, you will have to pay a gas fee to approve the transaction.

If you choose ‘Approve card spending’, you’ll only have to pay a gas fee once to allow MetaMask Card to use this token.

If you choose ‘Edit limit’, you’ll have to pay a gas fee every time you approve a new limit. For example, if you set your initial limit to 20 USDC, and spend that entire limit, you’ll need to set a new limit to keep spending USDC. When you approve a new limit, you’ll have to pay a gas fee again.

You can also delegate multiple tokens for each network; you can then set a priority to decide which tokens should be spent in which order.

Supported tokens

Currently, the following tokens are supported for spending with MetaMask Card:

  • Linea: mUSD, USDC, USDT, wETH, EURe, GBPe, aUSDC, and amUSD
  • Solana: USDC and USDT
  • Base: USDC, USDT, and aBasUSDC

For US users, the following tokens and networks are supported:

  • Linea: mUSD, amUSD, USDC, and aUSDC
  • Base: USDC, USDT, and aBasUSDC (not currently supported for users in New York and Texas)
How can I get aUSDC on Linea?

You shouldn't swap aUSDC to Linea, as each aToken is specific to the network you are on. For example, if you lend USDC on Linea, you will technically receive aLINUSDC, and if you lend USDC on Ethereum, you will receive aETHUSDC. Both tokens are aUSDC, but they are both instances of aUSDC on a specific network. MetaMask Card spends aLINUSDC.

Instead, you can lend USDC on Linea to receive aUSDC on the same network. You can now lend USDC on Linea directly from MetaMask. See our guide here for more information.

Note: this isn't financial advice. Users should do their own research before engaging in DeFi activities and protocols.

How do I get Monerium's EURe or GBPe on Linea?

EURe and GBPe are stablecoins issued by Monerium, and you can on-ramp the token directly from Monerium. Currently, you should not swap either token on Linea, due to low liquidity.

Set a spending priority

You can set spending limits for MetaMask Card with multiple tokens. You need to set one token that will be spent first; if you do not have enough of this token in your account to complete a transaction, the token next in line will be used instead. Learn more about spending preference here.
