Managing MetaMask Card
Does this article need to be translated?
MetaMask Card is currently in a pilot phase and is only available to MetaMask users in the UK and EU.
Weâre working hard to bring MetaMask Card to more people; stay tuned for updates!
Once youâve set up your MetaMask Card, you can manage your card through a convenient dashboard. This guide will walk you through managing your card, including how to:
- Freeze your card
- Manage your spending limit
- Add your card to your digital wallet
- View and download your transaction history
- Manage spending preference
To reach your Card dashboard, navigate to MetaMask Portfolio â click âCardâ in the left-hand navigation bar â click âGet startedâ.
MetaMask Cardâs dashboard is accessed through Crypto Lifeâs website. Make sure you navigate to this external page through the links in MetaMask Portfolio. Once there, you can bookmark the correct page.
Once you are on the MetaMask Card homepage, click âManageâ in the top navigation bar.
Freeze Cardâ
To temporarily pause any activity on your card, toggle the âFreeze Cardâ switch to on, indicated by a blue color.
To unfreeze your card, toggle the switch back to off. This allows you to start making transactions again.
Manage spending limitâ
You can set spending limits for MetaMask Card to control what tokens the card uses. You can also revoke access to a token that youâve previously given to MetaMask Card.
Delegate funds to MetaMask Cardâ
In the âManageâ tab, click âManage Spending Limitâ.
A pop-up will appear that shows your token balance of USDC, USDT, or wETH. To change the token, click on the tokenâs name, and then select the token youâd like to use. You should then see the selected tokenâs balance. For this example, weâll use USDT.
If you donât see the correct balance, make sure you have bridged the correct tokens to Linea. You should also ensure you have the correct account enabled. To manage accounts, click on âAccountâ and then check all of the accounts you would like MetaMask Card to access.
MetaMask Card currently supports USDT, USDC, and wETH. Weâre working hard to expand support to more tokens.
After selecting a token, choose whether youâd like to automatically approve spending, or if you would like to approve a specific limit.
Automatically approve spendingâ
The âAutomatically approve spendingâ option allows MetaMask Card to use as much of the selected token as you have in your MetaMask wallet.
For example, to give MetaMask Card access to all your USDT, you should select âAutomatically approve spending.â This option will let MetaMask Card draw upon any USDT in your wallet, including any new USDT that you add to your wallet later.
Once youâve clicked âAutomatically approve spendingâ, your MetaMask wallet will ask you to confirm this decision. On the pop-up signature page, the spending cap will be auto-populated as an impossibly high quantity of that token, effectively providing MetaMask Card with continuous access to the token.
Once youâve set the spending cap, you should see your new card balance on the âOverviewâ homepage. This amount will reflect the new token and the amount available for use in your wallet.
Approve a specific limitâ
Alternatively, the âApprove a specific limitâ option allows you to give MetaMask Card access to a specific amount of a token.
For example, if you want to give MetaMask Card access to 5 USDT, you should click âApprove a specific limitâ and enter 5.00 USDT.
MetaMask will then prompt you to approve the amount. You should see the amount you specified, in this case 5 USDT, as the spending cap amount.
Once youâve confirmed the amount, you should see your new card balance on the âOverviewâ homepage.
Revoke tokens from MetaMask Cardâ
If youâve given MetaMask Card access to a token, you can revoke that access by using the same âManage Spending Limitâ feature. In this case, we will revoke the 5 USDT we previously gave our card access to.
Click âManage Spending Limit,â and then select the token that you want to revoke access to, like USDT. Then, click âApprove a specific limit,â and enter 0.
A confirmation will appear in MetaMask, asking if you would like to revoke the spending cap you had previously set. Click âApprove.â This will revoke MetaMask Cardâs access to this token.
You can also revoke token delegation in MetaMask Portfolio. Head to MetaMask Portfolio and click âRevokeâ on the delegated token.
Add digital walletâ
You can add your MetaMask Card to your Apple or Google Wallet for convenient, everyday use.
For Apple Wallets, follow this guide to use MetaMask Card with Apple Pay.
For Google Wallets, follow this guide to use MetaMask Card with Google Pay.
View and download transaction historyâ
In the âManageâ tab, click âStatement of Transactionsâ to automatically download a CSV file with your transaction history. This statement includes information about the merchant, time of purchase, tokens used, currency used, and more.
Manage tokensâ
If you have delegated multiple tokens to MetaMask Card, you can set a spending preference, which tells the card which token to spend first. Once you run out of this token, the card will start drawing upon the next token in the priority list.
In the âManageâ tab, click âManage Tokensâ A pop-up will appear with the list of tokens youâve given your card access to.
You can reorder token priority by clicking on a token and dragging it to a new position. Remember, the #1 token is the token that will be spent first.
Click âSave priorityâ when youâre done to save this new order.
