Installing the Legacy Web3 MetaMask
If, for some reason, you need to install the Legacy version of MetaMask, there are canonical links below. If, for whatever reason, those links don't work, you can do so by following our instructions below.
This version of MetaMask is now very, very out of date. It might not work the way you expect, or for that matter, very well at all.
If you are being instructed by someone to install this version of MetaMask, stop now. Installing an old or alternate version of a wallet client like MetaMask is often the first step in getting scammed.
Only install this version of MetaMask if you really know why you need to; otherwise, just install the latest version, from metamask.io/download
Manual installation process
It is possible to install manually using the source code on GitHub: https://github.com/MetaMask/legacy-web3-extension. Do not attempt this method if you're unsure what you're doing.
With version 9.0.0 of the MetaMask browser extension, we stopped providing the window.web3 API to websites. We communicated this change to the Ethereum community over a year in advance. Nevertheless, unmaintained sites may still break.
In order for our users to access these legacy websites, we created the MetaMask Legacy Web3 Extension. If you install this extension alongside the regular MetaMask wallet extension, websites that rely on our old window.web3 API should start working again.
As with the regular extension, it's critical that you only install from the official browser extension stores. Please follow the relevant link below to install the Legacy Web3 extension in your browser:
