How do rewards work in MetaMask Pooled Staking?

What are 'rewards'?

We use the term 'rewards' to refer to the ETH payments that the account staking ETH with MetaMask receives from the Ethereum protocol in return for contributing to keeping the network secure, stable, and operational.

How do you display rewards?

Rewards rate

The reward rate you see in-app is the reward rate of the staking pool over the past week, minus the MetaMask fee, and annualized to represent what the rewards would mean over a year.

Here's the formula:

Reward rate = MetaMask Pooled Staking reward rate * (1 - MetaMask fee)

Where:

  • MetaMask Pooled Staking reward rate is the total rewards received by the staking pool validators (both consensus layer and execution layer rewards), divided by the total ETH in the staking pool, estimated as the moving average of the last seven days.
  • The MetaMask fee is a 15% fee on staking rewards. It means users receive 85% of the staking rewards returned by the Ethereum network.

The reward rate may fluctuate over time due to network conditions; historic reward rates do not necessarily predict future staking rewards.

Staked balance

This is the total amount of ETH you have staked and is earning staking rewards. This includes past rewards, which are automatically staked, and unstake requests not yet ready to be claimed. The staked balance is updated every 12 hours to account for new rewards.

Lifetime rewards

This is the total rewards your stake has generated since you first staked your ETH with MetaMask Staking Pool.

Reward available to claim

If you have initiated an unstake request, this is the amount of ETH you can claim and receive in your account. Otherwise, you will not see this section.
