How to reset your MetaMask
This article describes the MetaMask reset process, which is different from an account reset. Click here to read about resetting your account(s).
What is a MetaMask reset?
A MetaMask reset (or wallet reset) essentially returns your MetaMask Extension or Mobile app to the state it was in when you downloaded it: it clears your Secret Recovery Phrases and your accounts from the software.
You should be very cautious before proceeding; if you don't have your SRP, or your Google/Apple account and password, you will lose access to your accounts, and MetaMask will not be able to recover them for you.
What's the difference between resetting my MetaMask and resetting my account?
Although similar in name, these two options have different effects.
'Reset MetaMask' will completely remove your wallets from the device, requiring you to restore with your SRP. 'Reset account' will wipe your transaction history, leaving your wallet otherwise untouched. See our account reset article for additional detail.
Reset account will wipe your transaction history, but keep your wallet in MetaMask.
Reset MetaMask will completely remove your wallets and accounts from this MetaMask install.
Most users will have no need to reset their MetaMask.

If you access your MetaMask via Google or Apple, you cannot disconnect your wallets and accounts from your Google or Apple login. If you create a new MetaMask instance, and login via your Google or Apple account and password, all of your associated accounts and wallets will be restored to that new instance. Basically, you cannot reset your MetaMask if you access it via Google or Apple, unless you want to move away from logging in via Google or Apple altogether.
