Staking is the mechanism that keeps the Ethereum network honest and secure. This involves depositing ETH in a smart contract, operating machines that perform operational duties for the Ethereum protocol, like attesting and proposing blocks, and earning ETH rewards for performing those duties well.

With MetaMask Validator Staking, users just need to deposit ETH in a smart contract and watch the rewards grow. MetaMask and Consensys Staking handle the rest.
