Funds, organizations, and others with custodial accounts can manage their institutional wallets directly in MetaMask Extension.
You can manage and initiate transactions on MetaMask after importing your custodial accounts. All signing must happen on your custodian’s platform.
Getting started with your institutional wallet is simple. Don’t have MetaMask installed yet? Download the Extension here.
- Navigate to Settings by clicking the three vertical dots in the upper right corner
- Click the Advanced section
- Toggle on 'Manage Institutional Wallets'
- Navigate to the account dropdown selector on the homepage
- Click 'Add account or hardware wallet'
- Click 'Manage Institutional Wallets'
- Note: You will not see this in the dropdown until you activate the functionality within Advanced Settings first
- Select your desired provider from the list of supported custodians
- Click 'Connect to MetaMask' within the custodian’s interface
- Select the account(s) you want to import and click 'Confirm'
The imported accounts will now appear within the account selector.
You can easily remove any account by clicking the three vertical dots next to an account and clicking ‘Remove account.’ To add an institutional account back, repeat the steps above.
Transacting with institutional accounts
Institutional accounts function similarly to hardware accounts, where you can initiate transactions on MetaMask Extension, but you need to sign with your keys—on your custodian’s interface—to complete the transaction.
To transact, simply:
- Confirm in MetaMask for any transaction you initiate
- You will receive a notification (click the bell icon) reminding you to continue the process with your custodian
- Go to your custodian’s site to sign and complete the transaction
What custodian partners are currently supported?
Does this replace MMI?
Yes, our previous product MetaMask Institutional (MMI), which provided institutional wallet support as a separate solution, is now embedded directly within MetaMask Extension for a singular, cohesive experience.
