How MetaMask fees work
When you trade in MetaMask, MetaMask charges a small fee on the trade. This article explains what the fee is and why the fee you pay can sometimes be different from the standard rate.
The standard MetaMask fee
MetaMask's standard fee is currently 0.875%. This applies to MetaMask Swaps transactions including:
- Same chain swaps
- Cross chain swaps (or bridging)
- Quick buy and sell
- Batch sell
- Limit orders (final fee calculated at order execution, see Fees on limit orders below)
The MetaMask fee is included in your quote before you confirm.
Perps and Predictions have their own fee structures, which are separate from the standard MetaMask fee.
What the MetaMask fee doesn't include
In addition to the MetaMask fee, your transaction may include:
- Network fee (gas): Paid to the network to process your transaction, not to MetaMask. It changes based on network activity.
- With gasless swaps, the network fee is covered from the tokens in your swap instead.
- Bridge provider fees: Paid to the bridge provider to process your swap across networks, not to MetaMask.
- Price impact and slippage: The difference between the quoted and final rate caused by market liquidity.
Why your fee can be different
While 0.875% is the current standard rate, MetaMask runs programs that can reduce the fee you pay. Your fee will not be higher than the standard MetaMask fee. If you’re eligible for any program that affects the standard rate, it will be applied when your trade executes.
MetaMask programs that can discount the fee or reward you based on the fee include:
- Promotions: From time to time MetaMask reduces or waives the fee on certain tokens or networks for a limited period. When this applies, the quote shows the reduced rate.
Fees on limit orders
A limit order executes in the future, if/when the market reaches your price condition. Because discounts depend on when the order executes, MetaMask can’t show your exact fee when you create it.
Instead of a fixed rate, the order screen displays an ‘Includes MetaMask fee’ label and calculates your final fee at order execution.
Your fee will not be higher than the current standard MetaMask fee. If you’re eligible for a program that affects the fee, it’s applied at order execution.
There’s no additional fee to create or cancel a limit order.
Eligibility for discounts is assessed at order execution. Rates and eligibility for any program can change, and MetaMask may end or pause a program at any time.
