What is MetaMask Trace?

MetaMask Trace (MMT) is an investigative service designed to help MetaMask users understand and document fund loss incidents. Our investigators analyze blockchain data and provide a comprehensive forensic report detailing what happened to your funds.

comprehensive reports only

MetaMask Trace does not recover stolen funds. It is an informational service only. Start a conversation with us below if you’re seeking help around fund loss.

  • This report is informational and intended to help you understand potential losses. Gaining a clearer picture about what happened to your funds helps you protect your assets better in the future and strengthen wallet security. You can also use the report at your discretion, such as when filing a report with law enforcement or other investigative agencies.

    примечание

MetaMask Trace is available exclusively to MetaMask users.

We cannot provide reports for thefts that occur entirely outside MetaMask e.g. losses from investment scams where funds were sent through a centralized exchange (CEX) or via ACH/bank transfer.

How to qualify for MetaMask Trace

You may qualify for MetaMask Trace if:

    • The total theft amount is between $10,000 and $50,000 USD
      • In some cases, we may extend MMT to victims who lost over $50,000 so start a conversation with us
    • The transactions related to the theft occurred within MetaMask (e.g., signing a malicious approval or sending funds via your MetaMask wallet)
    • The theft took place on a supported blockchain network (see below)

    Disqualifications

You will not qualify for MetaMask Trace if:

    • The theft amount is under $10,000
    • The theft occurred over one year ago
      • Note: This is because the funds are most likely moved or gone. However, if your stolen funds are still dormant, we may still be able to help. Tell us more about your case.
    • The theft occurred outside MetaMask
    • The theft occurred on an unsupported blockchain

    Supported networks

MetaMask Trace supports theft investigations on the following networks:

Algorand, Aptos, Arbitrum, Asset Hub (Polkadot), Avalanche C-Chain, Base, Berachain, Binance, Binance Smart Chain, Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Canton Network, Cardano, Celo, Cosmos, Dash, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Fantom, Gnosis, Hedera, Hyperliquid HyperEVM, Katana (Polygon 2.0), Klaytn, Linea, Litecoin, Mantle, MultiversX, Near Protocol, Optimism, Plume, Polkadot, Polygon, Sei, Solana, Sonic, Stellar, Sui, Terra, Tezos, TON, TRON, Unichain, Worldchain, XRP Ledger, XRPL EVM, ZCash, and ZKsync.

    Questions

What if I sent funds through multiple platforms?

If your theft involves multiple platforms (e.g., MetaMask and a centralized exchange), MMT will only consider transactions that occurred through MetaMask.

Example 1: You sent $15,000 through MetaMask transfers and $25,000 through CEX transfers—MMT would only consider the $15,000 theft and it would qualify for investigation.

Example 2: You sent $5,000 through MetaMask transfers and $25,000 through CEX transfers—MMT would only consider the $5,000 theft and because it is less than the $10,000 threshold, it would not qualify for investigation.
