Understanding gas sponsorship
Gas sponsorship is a feature that covers your network fees on certain chains, courtesy of MetaMask and/or partners.
If your transaction is eligible, you won’t need to pay the gas (transaction) fee. It will be covered automatically with no additional steps required.
Currently gas sponsorship is available on:
- Monad
Monad
To qualify for sponsored transactions on Monad, you must:
- Have at least 10 MON in your balance (you must still have 10 MON remaining after your transaction)
- Submit a Monad -> Monad transaction (for example, a swap or send within the Monad network).
Transactions between Monad and other networks are not eligible.
How gas sponsorship works
Gas sponsorship relies on smart accounts (EIP-7702). If your account hasn’t been upgraded yet, it will automatically convert to a smart account when you submit your first eligible transaction on a supported network.
Currently, you cannot opt out of sponsorship. If smart accounts are manually disabled, they will automatically be re-enabled when you submit an eligible transaction.
How long will my transactions be sponsored?
Gas sponsorship is currently available on select networks but not guaranteed to continue indefinitely. Availability may change at any time.
Why isn’t my transaction sponsored?
Sponsored transactions are only available:
- On supported networks
- For eligible transaction types
- For transactions that don’t exceed 5,000,000 gas (5M gas units)
- When all requirements (such as minimum balance) are met
If your transaction doesn’t qualify, you will need to pay the network fee as usual.
