How to use MetaMask on Solana
There are many popular chains that, originally, were not compatible with MetaMask. However, thanks to MetaMask's Snaps system, anyone with the technical knowledge can build an integration so that you can use your MetaMask on any chain you want.
Here are just some of the networks that are accessible on MetaMask using a Snap (in alphabetical order):
- Aleo
- Algorand
- Arweave
- Bitcoin
- Cosmos
- Filecoin
- Hedera
- NEAR
- Polkadot
- Solana
- Starknet
- Sui
- Tezos
What networks can I use in MetaMask?
For a full, current list of Snaps available for non-EVM networks available for use in MetaMask:
Apply the Interoperability filter and browse Snaps here:
That filter, Interoperability
, refers to MetaMask being interoperable with chains that have a different technical setup than Ethereum-based networks.
Keep in mind that Snaps are, generally, not built by MetaMask. For more information on this, see our Interoperability Snaps overview article.
How to access Solana
Let's say you want to use the Solana Wallet Snap. Click on it in the directory, and you'll see the Snap's listing page:
With MetaMask Extension installed and unlocked, click on the Add to MetaMask
button in the upper right hand corner of the listing page.
The Snap should begin the installation process:
After carefully reviewing the information provided to you about the Snap, if you wish to proceed, click on Accept
, and then on Connect
:
MetaMask always wants you to be safe, but trusts you to make your own decisions — so you'll be shown the permissions you're giving this Snap:
If you accept them, you'll finally install the Snap, and then you'll be ready to start using MetaMask as your Solana wallet:
Using a companion dapp with a Snap
In the example of this Solana Snap, the development team built a companion dapp that goes along with the Snap. This dapp gives you a full portfolio view of your Solana activity, in coordination with the Snap.
To use Solflare, the dapp, follow the link provided to you at the end of the install process, connect MetaMask to the dapp, and enjoy:
