MetaMask Card eligibility

MetaMask Card is currently in a pilot phase and is only available to MetaMask users in the UK, the EU, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and a small pilot group of United States users.

We’re working hard to bring MetaMask Card to more people; stay tuned for updates!

Once you’ve set up your MetaMask Card, you can manage your card through a convenient dashboard. This guide will walk you through managing your card, including how to:

  • Freeze your card
  • Manage your spending limit
  • Add your card to your digital wallet
  • View and download your transaction history
  • Manage spending preference

To reach your Card dashboard, navigate to MetaMask Portfolio → click ‘Card’ in the left-hand navigation bar → click ‘Get started’.

Manage spending limit

You can set spending limits for MetaMask Card to control what tokens the card uses. You can also revoke access to a token that you’ve previously given to MetaMask Card.

Delegate funds to MetaMask Card

In the ‘Manage’ tab, click ‘Manage Spending Limit’.

MetaMask Card manage spending limit settings

A pop-up will appear that shows your token balance of USDC, USDT, or wETH. To change the token, click on the token’s name, and then select the token you’d like to use. You should then see the selected token’s balance. For this example, we’ll use USDT.

MetaMask Card switch token

If you don’t see the correct balance, make sure you have bridged the correct tokens to Linea. You should also ensure you have the correct account enabled. To manage accounts, click on ‘Account’ and then check all of the accounts you would like MetaMask Card to access.

MetaMask Card select accounts

Eligible tokens

MetaMask Card currently supports USDT, USDC, and wETH. We’re working hard to expand support to more tokens.

After selecting a token, choose whether you’d like to automatically approve spending, or if you would like to approve a specific limit.

MetaMask Card set token approval type

Automatically approve spending

The ‘Automatically approve spending’ option allows MetaMask Card to use as much of the selected token as you have in your MetaMask wallet.

For example, to give MetaMask Card access to all your USDT, you should select ‘Automatically approve spending.’ This option will let MetaMask Card draw upon any USDT in your wallet, including any new USDT that you add to your wallet later.

Once you’ve clicked ‘Automatically approve spending’, your MetaMask wallet will ask you to confirm this decision. On the pop-up signature page, the spending cap will be auto-populated as an impossibly high quantity of that token, effectively providing MetaMask Card with continuous access to the token.

MetaMask Card set no spending limit

Once you’ve set the spending cap, you should see your new card balance on the ‘Overview’ homepage. This amount will reflect the new token and the amount available for use in your wallet.

Approve a specific limit

Alternatively, the ‘Approve a specific limit’ option allows you to give MetaMask Card access to a specific amount of a token.

For example, if you want to give MetaMask Card access to 5 USDT, you should click ‘Approve a specific limit’ and enter 5.00 USDT.

MetaMask Card approve specific limit

MetaMask will then prompt you to approve the amount. You should see the amount you specified, in this case 5 USDT, as the spending cap amount.

MetaMask Card set custom limit

Once you’ve confirmed the amount, you should see your new card balance on the ‘Overview’ homepage.

Revoke tokens from MetaMask Card

If you’ve given MetaMask Card access to a token, you can revoke that access by using the same ‘Manage Spending Limit’ feature. In this case, we will revoke the 5 USDT we previously gave our card access to.

Click ‘Manage Spending Limit,’ and then select the token that you want to revoke access to, like USDT. Then, click ‘Approve a specific limit,’ and enter 0.

MetaMask Card set spending limit to zero

A confirmation will appear in MetaMask, asking if you would like to revoke the spending cap you had previously set. Click ‘Approve.’ This will revoke MetaMask Card’s access to this token.

Revoke in Portfolio

You can also revoke token delegation in MetaMask Portfolio. Head to MetaMask Portfolio and click ‘Revoke’ on the delegated token.

Add digital wallet

You can add your MetaMask Card to your Apple or Google Wallet for convenient, everyday use.

For Apple Wallets, follow this guide to use MetaMask Card with Apple Pay.

For Google Wallets, follow this guide to use MetaMask Card with Google Pay.

View and download transaction history

In the ‘Manage’ tab, click ‘Statement of Transactions’ to automatically download a CSV file with your transaction history. This statement includes information about the merchant, time of purchase, tokens used, currency used, and more.

Manage tokens

If you have delegated multiple tokens to MetaMask Card, you can set a spending preference, which tells the card which token to spend first. Once you run out of this token, the card will start drawing upon the next token in the priority list.

In the ‘Manage’ tab, click ‘Manage Tokens’ A pop-up will appear with the list of tokens you’ve given your card access to.

You can reorder token priority by clicking on a token and dragging it to a new position. Remember, the #1 token is the token that will be spent first.

Click ‘Save priority’ when you’re done to save this new order.
